Cool new take on this monster !
For me, the Giant Claw was always probably one of the worst monsters I ever seen, I mean it looked so dam right ridiculous, I'm still wondering who was the ,,genius" that came up with the design for it, and despite the pretty good acting in the movie, it was still a bit of a fail, that puppet running most of it.
But still, love your take on this monster, despite that that Mohawk still bugs me, but still a very good take.

According to common legend the design was actually a disappointment to the studio, who outsourced the building of the puppet to Mexico.  When the final product arrived they were stuck with what they had and simply had to shoot with it.  I have to feel for them if that's the case, nothing like getting stuck with an inferior product you can't fix, but at least the doofy bird will live in infamy

Yeah, they so got trolled if that's the case and you can't at least have a bit of feelings for them, I mean they tried but I don't understand why they didn't delayed a bit more the production so that they can make it look way better or even make a new one despite the possible hates that they could have get but at least they would have made a pretty good monster movie.
But ah well you can't change the past anymore and you are right that the Giant Claw will continue to live

Very kind of you, thanks. I don't know how much "scarier" I actually made the big turkey but I'm glad people WANT to see it be meaner. Who knows, maybe a bad SciFi channel remake will be in the works if we're "lucky". :)

I'll be doggoned... you took the Giant Claw's design, and made him look... well, not exactly menacing, but a heckuva lot better. Nice job!

Thanks, I honestly wasn't trying to make any improvements because why change ridiculous perfection? But I guess based on the comments the bird sorta turned out a lot meaner and streamlined, or something. Thanks for looking :)

I think it's in the eyes. The original had big googly eyes, and these look considerably smaller and more menacing.

You're welcome!

awesome and I agree with you on what you said-The Giant Claw is one of the silliest monster movies of yesteryear, but it will always hold a special place in my heart. You made the space anti-matter bird look cool well made.

This bird actually is in an upcoming story of mine

glad to hear it, I was thinking of putting her in a story, too :) The kaiju genre needs more passionate writers and fiction enthusiasts.

yeah.A friend of mine was going to make this bird but I think that person forgot it oh well.

I agree with you the kaiju genre needs more passionate writers and fiction enthusiasts. a lot more of them and watch the classic monster movies and them (1954) is good and the deadly mantis also good

That's a mixed compliment, because I actually wanted her to look as derpy as the puppet, but I ended up making her look meaner :P But thanks, I really appreciate the good feedback on this one, I wasn't expecting anyone to really care about the ugliest bird in giant monster movie history!

do you think they'll remake this
Reply
:iconkaijukid:
kaijukid Featured By Owner Aug 12, 2012  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Not likely, giant monster movies are mostly remade nowadays as parodies, though that seemingly won't be the case with the new Godzilla, or the Pacific Rim kaiju movie that's coming out. I would of course love to see the Giant Claw in anything new just for kicks, but I doubt modern Hollywood would care to try to make a serious or good monster flick with it.

Appreciate it, I'm developing a fondness for putting the lamest of movie monsters in picture form to honor them :) I mean, the movie's really not that bad....but the BIRD. It's so astoundingly hideous in every derpy way possible that it just shoots the movie down into goofball territory, but of course that's why we love it so much.

A FLYING BATTLESHIP! Haha, I owned and watched this movie way before the AVGN made it popularized. I am glad he did and sad he did. Cause it was one of those badass giant goofy monster flicks that only the diehards had seen. Now everyone and their mother jumped on the "The giant claw is cool" bandwagon. Oh well. The feather work on the body really looks awesome. Now if you did a Kronos piece, you can have the 2 mightiest beasts of all time square off! Haha.

I was one of the lucky ones who watched the movie since I was a kid, my grandma had it among her VHS sets of monster flicks (including my first exposure to Godzilla as well), and this movie was always legend in our family, partially because it was so bad but also because it was just so memorable and fun. I wish I could attach an audio file of the Claw's friggin' weird kawing noises.

I taped mine off of Monster Vision on TNT way back in the day. They showed 4 films that night. Beast of Hollow Mountain (a boring Valley of Gwangi type flick), Monster that Challeneged the World (which I freaking love still to this day!!!!) The Giant Behemoth, And the Giant Claw. Ahhhh back in the day when TNT was cool..............before Drama happened :(
